Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.6/100, a mean average of 66.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 66.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.1.

THE CURSE OF IMMORTALITY
Like all the best goth albums, this really isn’t a goth album. It’s way more than that. But it’s got a gothic heart at it’s core. The heart of a lonely, immortal vampire who has had to endure over and over again the death of his loves as even his power can only sustain them for so long. Some last two hundred years. Some last fifty. But eventually they all succumb. To death. As he lives on. His lament for these lost loves and their faded beauty fills this album. Eulogies for all the loves that he still holds dear in his heart. Each one of them. He tries desperately to fill these memories with the beauty & romance & gallantry of their fond years together. But, the memories are all bittersweet. Painted blue and tainted with death and decay. The drums plod like a weary pilgrimage that has been going on far too long with still miles to go. For that is how his life feels now. And endless mournful journey. Too brokenhearted and crushed to find a new love yet his life continues to go on. Forever. And he wonders how much longer he can endure this pilgrimage of broken hearts.
Grade: A+. Simply one of the best gothic albums of all time. While not quite at Pornography's or Closer's or even Siouxsie’s Kaleidoscope level, it’s pretty damn close. And this is easily Durutti Column’s best stuff. It’s far, far better than their more well know debut, The Return Of the Durutti Column. And it really is ripe for discovery of fans of dark 80s college rock. It's been buried far too long. And it trudges along on its trail of tears all the way to number four.
