Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.2/100, a mean average of 68.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 20.0.

95th best of 1978?!?!?! Ridiculous! This album was on EVERY turntable of that time. A timeless classic. Easily one of the top five albums of 78. (Edited)

First 3 tracks are good, along with "Wheel in the Sky", but I don't care for the last 4. Journey continues to show why their "Greatest Hits" or Live albums are the way to go. (Edited)

Steve Perry joins the band and the start to move towards the Journey we all know. Features some of their first classic songs with Wheel in the Sky, Lights, and Anytime. (Edited)

Journey's best album, the one that put them on the map. Much better than their subsequent albums, which were seemingly geared to young women and teenage girls. Why this album isn't thought of more highly I don't understand. (Edited)
