Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.7/100, a mean average of 75.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.8.

Ratamahatta is the only notable song on here. This bands vocals went from great (Beneath the Remains, Arise) to passable (Chaos A.D.) to simply annoying (Roots).

Top class metal album. Heavy as fuck. Angry as fuck. But unlike most albums of this genre where the songs all seem to blend into each other, the tracks on this each have their distinct uniqueness and difference. Which is what makes it a cut above and deservedly placed as a classic. One of the better metal albums out there.

The last Sepultura album to feature Max Cavalera, "Roots" continues the band's experimentation with Brazilian sounds that began with their previous album "Chaos A.D.".

Incorporating indigenous culture (the band recorded with the Xavante tribe) and heavily influenced by Korn, "Roots" is a unique masterpiece. It's among the best metal albums of all time, bursting with energy, creativity, and urgency.

If you only have time for one song, listen to "Ratamahatta", featuring Korn's David Silveria and legendary Brazilian percussionist, Carlinhos Brown.

Their last really great album before becoming shadows of their former selves. Love the Brazilian tribal aspects, adds to the whole atmosphere while remaining brutally angry and pissed off throughout. Max Cavalera left some blood on the microphone making this one.
