Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.3/100, a mean average of 71.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.8.

Indie. Starts off well with the first three tracks (Santa Cruz, Big Sur, Don't Steal Our Sun). Bit of a drop off in the second half of the album though, although it's a pleasant listen with only a couple of boring tracks.

4 or 5 good songs amongst a lot of weaker tracks, side 2 a particular slog to get through - so boring... 4 good songs from 11 (or 12 if counting the 'hidden' track) - not good... would've made a better EP.
Highlights; Don't Steal Our Sun, Santa Cruz, Big Sur, One Horse Town (basically most of side 1)

Really disappointing. The songs are absolutely nothing special at all, but the singing is what really drove me nuts. He sounds like a bad cross between Wayne Coyne and Neil Young, two singers I actually enjoy very much, but imagine every one of the attributes people don't like about their voices and you get this guy.

Irish band The Thrills is refreshingly original in their nostalgic take on folky rock music. Embracing their inner Beatles, Beach Boys and other 60s rock and pop acts, So Much For The City is a stunning debut filled with feel-good songs to brighten anyone's day. Singer Conor Deasy's vocals are soothing to listen to, even if they don't carry all notes with equal power. The instrumentation is varied, focused on traditional instruments to give the music a folk-rock tinge, close to The Waterboys.
Overall, this album offers easygoing music, mostly in a rhythmic and up-tempo fashion, but with a couple of sluggishly slow track thrown in as well. The variation in terms of sound is surprisingly little.
A solid, but pretty safe debut that could have easily done more with its promising concept and the admittedly unique sound the band has crafted. The standout tracks are the upbeat ones, such as "Big Sur" and "Say It Ain't So". The rest are perfectly acceptable as well.
Not brilliant, but good. Pity they never really followed it up. It was good at the time though.

Missing 4 tracks; Santa Cruz (You're not that far), Don't Steal Our Sun, Say It Ain't So and 'Til the Tide Creeps In
