Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.9/100, a mean average of 72.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.8.

Very forgettable album does not bring out any new facets of this great band
A bit of an overlooked Tull album. Consistent right through with some of the better tracks being the lesser known ones. Not their best but in no way shabby.
Tras sus obras conceptuales (Thick As A Brick y A Passion Play)), y las crÃticas adversas recibidas por la última, Anderson opta por una excelente colección de canciones que quizás no recibió la atención que merecÃa.
A middling Tull Album - very pleasant if not outstanding. Its hard to believe that such a good album is probably not even in the best ten Tull Albums - which says something about the depth of their catalogue.
Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day & Ladies are highlights, Back Door Angels is very proggy. Only Solitare is a lovely ballad.
My theory about great album covers and great music doesn't hold up here because the cover is rubbish and the music is excellent. This album is a real mixed bag from the almost classical 'Ladies' to the superb lead guitar soloing on 'Back Door Angels'. 'Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day' and 'Bungle in the Jungle' is a personal favourites.
A good record, but not their best by any means. I give it a listen once in awhile. It's hard to beat Thick As A Brick or Aqualung.

A good album album which mostly suffers from having been released in between and in a time of masterpieces. Not an essential Tull album, but definitely a good one for anyone wanting to go beyond their obvious masterpieces.
Even more amazing is that's just been added to the site. For how pretentious some of the big posters on the forum are, it's amazing to see how little "listened" they are.
Wow, no one? What a shame. Some great tunes here. Backdoor Angels is a prog rock gem!
