Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 68.1/100, a mean average of 67.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

The original incarnation. Tremendously influenced by George Clinton.

It's always good to listen to the band with some their original members in the line-up, but they didn't really put out the best material with those guys. Still a good album, just not my favorite Chili Peppers album.

Still limited as a 'bunch of guys who like to party' band. The lyrics are growing, but still limited. However, the sound is good. This is the Peppers at their most loose.

This is the first great Chili Pepper album for me. It has all the pieces that made them very popular later on. Fight Like A Brave and Me and My Friends show their unique sound. Behind the Sun shows they can change pace.

It's not too bad. Fight like a brave, is an excellent track, but that, party on your pussy, song is awful, as is the cover of Dylan's, subterranean homesick blues. The rest is enjoyable, but this is the last of the Chili's first phase albums.

An exercise in futility if you listen to first 3 Peppers albums thinking they will grow on you.

They are just bad albums. Young kids having fun on the west coast partying. Yay.

It is fun to listen just to see the unexpected development into their future careers. I mean, there is not a hint on any of these albums of what they could become. It really is astonishing.

A great 80's party album. It's aged well and is still fun to listen to.

First solid album of theirs in my opinion. There are only 2-3 songs that really shouldn't have made the cut. But hey for a band with the history they went through, it is amazing they did this well. First and last album to have all original members. John Frusciante just took this band to a whole new level though.

This is a little better than Freaky Styley, a little more RHCP. The next album was where it'd really coalesce though. The last album with Slovak and Irons.

The Chili's never rocked harder than this, and sounded so much fun while doing it. The chemistry between the band is amazing, and the sound is infectious (you can't help but bounce off the walls to these songs). While most bands were making cheese-metal in 1987, these guys were rocking harder and doing something original. Funky/heavy/soulful...party on!
