Well, of course we can't even compare this album with any Gilmour composition with Floyd, but despite that this is a good album.
It doesn't really fit in much with Pink Floyd stuff and can't be considered progressive rock at all. If anything I'd compare this with Nick Drake's Pink Moon, very relaxing soft/folk rock, maybe with the exception of This Heaven. Anyway it really great stuff, Gilmour proves once again to be one of the best songwriter/guitarists ever and with an excellent singing voice too.
For me this album is a disappointment :(
Gilmour really comes into his own as a songwriter, with an album of mature, lovely music in the vein of "Fat Old Sun." It's not quite Floyd, but it doesn't try be. Best songs are "Smile," "This Heaven," and the title track, but the album can be enjoyed start to finish. It's so nice to hear peaceful, contented work that's not merely complacent, but that wants you to accompany it to a better place.
