Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.4/100, a mean average of 75.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

I owned and played this album quite a few times way way back in the early 70's. One of the first 'super groups' (although Kooper, Still & Bloomfield never took part collectively on any of the album songs). Stills was soon destined for more supergroup greatness with Crosby & Nash and eventually Young. I liked it that Kooper & Stills did an interesting cover of Dylan's 'It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry'. I have added that version to my 'top 100 Dylan covers' chart.
The story goes that originally Kooper & Bloomfield were going to make an album and ended up doing the tracks on side 1 of the album on day 1 of recording. Bloomfield then left town and Kooper enlisted Stills (at very short notice) and they did side 2 of the album.

Pretty good stuff. "His Holy Modal Majesty" is the standout for me. The rest is nice listening but nothing too inventive. I probably fail to appreciate some of the studio wizardry and instrumental intricacies. The horns can be a little overwhelming.

Enjoyable combination of competent musicians making fun music together. 'Super' might be a touch generous for this LP, but it's a solid release for fans of jamming, blues-y(with a touch of country) rock music.

"Harvey's Tune" is my favorite track here. It has an incredible moody atmosphere to get lost in.

Great blues album! My dad turned me onto them. I'm surprised there aren't more fans on here!
