Superb album from a great wordsmith. I think it needs to be listened to/rated by an English audience as some of the language would not mean anything to others. Such a tight band delivering a great selection. Blockheads is a favourite of mine and is normally their encore number. Norman Watt=Roy has to be one of the best bass players I have ever seen and in combination with Chas Jankel they really do make a great live act

Pub rock: this album is so much more than this genre conjures. There is a raw wit on show here that transcends the simple melodies. Dury would have more well-known singles, but rarely would he hit these heights.

Painful.
Ian Dury's classic album, new boots and panties, is a brilliant new wave/punk record, the icing on the cake being Dury's cockney slang lyrics. Highlights include, sweet Gene Vincent, Billericay Dickie, and, clever Trevor. Enjoyable stuff.
Tracks 1-6 are 8 or 9 out of 10. Tracks 7-10 not to the same standard, although the last three tracks are of their time being Punk-like, with the track Blockheads being the best of the three...
Pretty solid album carried by Dury's cockney rhyming slang and Chaz Jankel's infectious hooks, unfortunately despite its consistency there isn't anything that really stands out save a couple tracks.
Best Songs: Wake Up And Make Love With Me, Sweet Gene Vincent, Billericay Dickie.
