Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols

The four brilliant singles, Bodies and Submission are the pick of the bunch here, there are only 2 or 3 tracks that are below par so overall this a great album which would have been well overhyped at the time. Along with the debut from the Clash this is the defining statement at the height of punk in 1977.

I suppose anyone who caught the Pistols live in '76 or '77 may argue this album fails to capture the energy but who knows, I wasn't there then but listening to it now still sounds pretty exciting.

This is the sound of punk. This is what it is. When I think of what punk was all about and what it sounded like as a musical style and not as a culture, I think of this album in its entirety. This record gets me amped every time. These angry bands today and over the last 30 years or so just generally don't have it. This record sounds just revolutionary and raw and exciting now even after over 35 years. Bless this record.

Overrated. I recognize how these boys were game changers, but their songs aren't memorable, they have no lasting impact on the listener, and they've sounded dated quickly. I'll give them credit for reflecting the malaise of the day, and for slapping us out of our arena-rock and disco stupor, but this is not a genius piece of art. It's some angry kids lashing out with their guitars. Needed at the time, still a worthwhile listen, but not the epic blockbuster many describe it as.

It makes Patti Smith, The Clash, The Stooges, and Television look like genius musical savants in comparison. I don't accept the notion that this is somehow a revered "classic" that I'm supposed to respect and appreciate and other obvious shock-value-period-pieces devoid of musical or stylistic appeal are supposed to be shat on. This is the Boomers' Limp Bizkit.

The most important and influential punk album ever, and also one of the most perfect debut LP's. Off course at the time hype and notoriety came hand in hand with this record but now all that original hoopla has died down we are now left with the reality of a great punchy rock'n'roll album. Full of fantastic kick ass songs, NMTB, is simply stunning, from, holidays in the sun, and, God save the queen, to, pretty vacant, anarchy in the UK, and the brilliant closing track, the record company put down, E.M.I. An excellent record.
