Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.5/100, a mean average of 74.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.6.

Slightly above average
Well, I really like the first two songs.
This album is an amalgamation of a few different genres. It has its lo-fi sound to it in places, it has some great guitar-work like you would expect out of straight rock music, and it has the reverb and spacey vocals you’d expect from dream pop. It’s a strange combination that actually works quite well.
It’s not often in indie rock that you come across someone like Ruban Nielson, someone who is a very good guitar player, but also an insane partier. Like, it’s amazing that he’s alive right now, and this is only their second album. But it works, and it works very well. You get some inventive melodies and some great rhythm to work with and you get a very solid album.
This album re-defines lo-fi, it is certainly true that they are more creative than Foxygen but they are also less accesible as II doesn't have any songs that will strike most people first time round. Anyway this is really unique and Unknown mortal orchestra will either become one of the most influential bands ever or one of the most underrated. Anyone who likes this should check out my list, I put this as n°3 best psychedelic album of the last 20 years.
A better 60s psych revival than Foxygen. Because, you know, they actually do something of their own with the sound instead of just trying to sound as much as possible like those (classic) bands.
Its alright. Not amazing but a fun listen.
Glad I stopped over looking this band and gave this album a chance, and loved it!
