Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.3/100, a mean average of 78.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.2.

It is a good album and maybe grow more over time. No weak tracks but merely good rather than great with exception of I should Live In Salt, Fireproof and Pink Rabbits. The National opening album tracks are always superb.
Not a huge fan of this record. I don't really like the vocal too much and I do find the songs to be a little bit repetitive and similar. I think the quality is s little bit behind some of their other better records. There were a few tracks which were amazing though and I feel that they really carry the record when it is getting slower. I haven't listened to this album as many times as I would have liked too but at the minute for me it is just a pretty good album and nothing more.
For some reason it is the only National album that truly does hit home.
I like their other stuff, but i love this.
One step behind their top stuff.

My god this album has slowly grown to become my favourite National album. Its almost against the laws of physics the way this album keeps growing on me! It pains me to see the album have a 79 rating because its honestly their best, funnest, most consistent album. Its their In Rainbows. I crave it!

Not my favorite by the National, but my first by the National. This was the record that opened my eyes to the band and I now consider them one of my favorite artists. Its chock full of great tracks and there are little to no weak moments. Highly recommended for a National fan
Underrated, I think. Together with Bloodbuzz Ohio, this album made me a fan!

Best National album, fite me
