The main problems i have with AMOK i had with The Eraser and The King Of Limbs. 01) The songs are too abstract and not melodic. Yes, this is a style change from Thom Yorke that is probably here to stay. Shuffling, dubstep-wanting, dissonant beats flitter behind and around his vocals, sometimes interesting, sometimes unoriginally ad-infinitum. This wouldn't be as big a deal if the lyrical content was presented with more structure. That leads me to... 02) I'm not sure why Thom has predominantly sung in a high octave on his last few releases, but this gives the songs less "teeth" and results in less song-by-song "variety". After three albums in this approximate template, "In Rainbows" seems like it was recorded decades ago.. (Edited)

I like Radiohead, but you guys have too much of a stranglehold on this website particularly when this side project has managed to be the top album of 2013. In all honesty no-one else but Radiohead fans are interested in this. (Edited)

Everyone of course this sounds like Thom Yorke's solo project. The reason the band formed was to initially perform songs from The Eraser live, a few years later they decided to release an album so that's why it sounds similar. Flea is so talented, you think the only way he knows how to play bass is the funky RHCP way, no he can do this too. This isn't supposed to sound like a brand new band it's a continuation of The Eraser. And it's freaking amazing. (Edited)

This is a massively underrated album. It's definitely a grower and deserves headphone immersion to appreciate the genius in the composition and layering of sounds. It needs to be properly reviewed only after listening to it at least a dozen or so times. A review on first listen is an injustice. The song Amok, for example continues to grow on me and I've listened to it many many times. Let go of your Radiohead prejudices and listen with brand new ears. (Edited)

I would have hoped for more influence from Flea. It does sound more like Nigel and Thom up to their usual stuff. You can tell Flea is playing with his distinct style, but musically it sounds nothing like Flea would've written and everything like Nigel and Thom. It's not bad, but not brilliant either.

Just started listening to Stuck Together Pieces... There's some Flea.
