Opinions divide on this early Shorter effort. I see one review on a Substack that dismissively waves its hand, calling the album inessential and saying "the material is very slight." While a jazz review site calls it "insanely wonderful" and one of Shorter's best albums. I would tend toward the latter, not going as far as saying one of his best, but definitely essential if you're collecting Shorter. It's a beautiful early Shorter album with characteristic originals, a sweet and rich tone from Shorter, and excellent sound.
