Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.9/100, a mean average of 69.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.2.

This was the beginning of a rough period for Bob Dylan. In late 1978, Dylan was a year removed from his divorce, he had just received horrible reviews for his film Renaldo and Clara, and his most recent studio album, “Street Legal”, had bombed (though personally I think it’s a pretty solid album).…

I'm not even a Christian, but I think that it is great to hear Dylan's spiritual side. I love the funky elements, and I think that this album is refreshed by a comparative lyric simplicity. Overall, a great listen! Highlights: Gotta Serve Somebody, Precious Angel, Man Gave Names to All the Animals.

Now, I was expecting this to be appalling. My scepticism at Dylan's conversion and what I'd heard about it combined to leave me less than enthusiastic. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It's not great, but it's certainly not bad, and Gotta Serve Somebody, I Believe in You and When He Returns are good songs. (Edited)

Vastly underrated. Dylan's songwriting was still incredibly strong at this point.

A lot funkier than I expected. Not really in a good way though (Edited)
