Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.2/100, a mean average of 74.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

There are some amazing songs on this record and I do think it goes slightly under appreciated in how good it actually is considering Roy Orbison was never really an album man. It is quite a consistent listen with all the songs being at least decent and a few transcending that and being brilliant. These tracks are You Got It, California Blue and my personal favourite She's A Mystery To Me. All of these are phenomenal and are up there with his best ever songs. His vocal shines bright as ever on this release and it sounds just as fresh as his earlier releases with just a little extra experience making his control and quality slightly superior to other records. He really was a very unique vocalist and it always warms me whenever I hear him sing. He is also backed beautifully on this record with some outstanding instrumental performances to sink your teeth into. The record never really slows down either and has a great flow to it. However, there are a couple of filler tracks on here which hold it back only a little. Overall, this goes under rated in the grand scheme of music as it is such an enjoyable listen and is probably Roy Orbison's greatest ever release as well as being packed full of quality.

The hit You Got It brought Roy back to the scene... but he never really was an album maker. He was a hit maker, and has an amazing voice.

Very good album. Best 10 songs average is 88,8/100 and the album can get very good 90/100. Orbisons voice is gorgeous. Best song is the opener "You got it" i'm rating fully 100/100, followed by "California blue" 95/100 and next "Dream you" 90/100. Favourite!

"Anything You Want" is the highlight. A lot of the other vocal performances sound pretty strained and even whiny to me.

Swooning in to rescue late 80's radio from dreck like late career Phil Collins, Michael Bolton and Roxette, Orbison's voice was a beautiful relief.

A truly great voice, whose best work in the 60s is best got at by seeking out the singles. This album was made shortly before his death and, relying on help from 'showbiz pals' like Jeff Lynne and Elvis Costello, should have been dreadful, but isn't, largely because his voice had taken on a strange ethereal quality by this time.
