Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.9/100, a mean average of 67.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

This is my favourite Jackson Browne album. Great political songs and good tunes.
Jackson Browne is a very good songwriter. I think this is his masterpiece. The majority of the songs are political. The lyrics are left-leaning, and this is, effectively, a rock version of a 60's protest album. For America, Soldier of Plenty and Lives In The Balance were all written with a backdrop of America's involvement in Nicaragua, among other places, but the lyrics were equally relevant to the early 2000s when the US invaded Iraq. If you're from the political left, you will love the lyrics on For America. If you're from the political right, you'll probably get angry. Lawless Avenues has to do with social problems on the domestic front here in the United States. There are some interesting instruments on a couple of songs, pipe instruments from indigenous peoples of latin or south america. In the Shape of a Heart and Candy are not political songs, but they're both good songs.
Some very good songwriting - personally think the title-track, "In the Shape of a Heart" and "Black & White" are the best.
