Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 41.4/100, a mean average of 39.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 39.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 23.4.

pretty much what is said below is 100% on. not a terrible record. but a terrible velvet underground record. sounds more like a record of songs that didn't make the cut for a nuggets disc.

As far as the actual music goes, I would say the 61/100 assigned to it by aggregating its songs is fair. Not a TERRIBLE album, but it is HIGHLY disappointing after the first four VU albums. Historically, it is going to go down as complete garbage for hijacking the title 'Velvet Underground' for publicity. Really, it is just a disappointment because, otherwise, the Velvets had a perfect discography. Really, it is better to just pretend that this wasn't a Velvets record.

Listenable - for a Doug Yule solo project - alas marketed as a VU album... Ian Paice (Deep Purple) drumming.

It fame is worst that the album itself, hadn't came under the Velvet Underground name had gently fade away and no one would hate it that much. Anyway the worst part are the labels trying to milk a band that gets popular, while a few years before they wouldn't have give them any chance.

I wish I didn't know its reputation before I listened to it. I really don't think its that bad. Its a bit generic, but not offensively bad. I don't cringe when I'm listening to it. Just because it says Velvet Underground on the cover it gets a worse reputation than it should, any other name and it would have faded happily into obscurity where it belongs.

To use a football analogy its like if a team of amateurs played Barcelona and they were annihilated, that still doesn't make them the worst team in world, they were just playing in the wrong league.
