Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.7/100, a mean average of 77.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.0.

Excellent psychedelic album. Can almost smell the incense and other concoctions on the air. Recording quality not the best but that kind of adds to the experience. Tough call between this and Crown of Creation.
An indelible part of the spring and summer of 1970, yet I can't quite call it a favorite- this most unstable of all the great bands was cracking up, and the fissures are everywhere. Still, "Good Shepherd," "Eskimo Blue Day," "Wooden Ships..."
Amazing album. The Airplane's best. A brilliant social/political commentary and easily their most consistent set of songs. Classic. Should get much more attention than it does.
Clássico um pouco esquecido!
It's not their most compelling release, but it has its moments. I preferred side 2, which really captures a mood that 1969 must have invoked on the Airplane, fittingly concluding with a signature-sounding title track "Volunteers".
But, overall, probably a record that same-era collectors could pass on in favour of Jefferson Airplane's earlier albums.
Volunteers and Sheppard are worth listening to, but the rest I'd be ok if I didn't hear it again. Not bad, just not good.
Best Airplane album, in my opinion, epitomizes the group's compositional maturity and playing ability. A "No Frills" political statement with some explicit lyrical references to top that: "Up against the wall (motherfucker)".
The Airplane's second best. A great last gasp at the end of the 60s. The 70s and 80s were not kind to this band. Starship? Bleh....
More hardline politically and 'earthy' musically than the utopianism of 'Baxter's', this album marks the band's transition from the latter to the former. The band is still able to capture the mood of a generation stuck between the fatigue represented by idealism of peace on the one hand, and socio-political optimism on the other. In my view, this doesn't quite grab me as much as 'Baxter's, but its still brilliant.
some beautiful moments, fantastically atmospheric, quintessential 60s counter-culture, pacifist music.. just not musically as striking as surrealistic pillow though.. my 2nd favourite airplane album
