Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 3% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 80.0/100, a mean average of 79.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.5/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 14.9.

When they were good they were fantastic. When they were bad there was almost no bottom. Unfortunately, it seemed like they spent a lot of their time seeking out the bad. Still, they brought two of the nicest people into the industry in Jorma and Jack, and maybe the most interesting writer in Grace. They were a legitimately great band, just an ungodly erratic and unstable one. Where the dead belonged together, these guys belonged in different states and different decades most of the time. In Paul's case a different constellation altogether.

One of the best bands of the late 60s does not get enough credit
The Airplane is the definitive psychedelic band of the late 60's. Probably the most integrally unified band of the time.
Grace Slick, IMHO, was the top female vocalist of the era, and one of the best all-time rocker chicks. Jack Cassady was an underrated, under-appreciated bassist. JA was and is, an iconic musical group.
One of those old hippie bands that my older siblings used to play (along with Crosby Stills and Nash, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, and the Rolling Stones).

Psychedelic gods. Such a fantastic sound.

200th best band ever is far off.

Psychedelic Masterpieces.

How did such an organic, rag-tag group of funky hippie pioneers become something so slick and soulless as Starship? Their 60s work is great hippie pop-rock. Steer away from anything post 1970.

Folk-rock / psychedeic rock essential listening. Grace Slick's voice was amazing.
