Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.3/100, a mean average of 68.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.0.

Irishman James Vincent McMorrow's greatest musical asset is his voice, which is both confessional and energizing, whether he's hitting the unexpected climax of “there's no sense at all” on “Glacier” or using it to construct a plaintive mantra at the end of “Red Dust” with the repeated lyric, “sometimes my hands they don't feel like my own / I need someone to love, I need someone to hold.” The tone is pained, but the effect on Post Tropical is both pretty and comforting throughout, particularly in the way the album's songs often build to a single yearning, repeated phrase, like “I remember my first love” or “there is so little light from the warmth of the sun.”

Pas terrible , oublié aussi vite qu'écouté.
This album is completely different from Early In The Morning. Al lot more use of electronics. The soundscapes in Glacier consist of multiple synthesizer tracks until it sounds like a tuba. I think that kind of music making is refreshing and therefor new. For me this is one of the greatest albums of 2014. Goose bumps allover.
when i heard this album i didnt relate his voice to justin vernon at all. same genre as bon iver, doesn't mean its an attempt to copy. i would simply recommend listening to this album while at home. really tones me down. i would buy it again for sure. not surprised t see it top 5 in '14.

I'm feeling the watered down Bon Iver vibe from this record too. It's flavorless.

First listen, I'm a bit disappointed compared to Early in the Morning. Yeah, it reminds me of Jeff Buckley, too. I'll try listening to it on its own merits.
To me it just felt too much like a watered down Bon Iver, and not just because of the vocals but the songwriting and instrumentation too. Now I can totally understand if this is the kind of sound you're looking for, and I'm certainly not saying it's bad. It's a pleasant album, but not interesting enough for me to want to return to it.
I don't get it. I tried, really I did. Two full listens. That voice just doesn't do it for me. Oh, well, to each his own. Not my bag I guess.

Best album of the year already?! I can see why that is.
This is soaring contemporary music from a soothing voice. It can be a bit samey at times but damn this is some kind of majestic wonderment, and I'm sure I'll discover more on future listens. I'm not yet eligible to make year charts, but when I am, this is going on the top of that list. This needs to be heard if you haven't heard it yet. Playing this over the summer would be such a blast!
Fantastic album. 8 days in, so far it's my AOTY.
I definitely get James Blake and Justin Vernon here
