Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.2/100, a mean average of 74.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

Joe Cocker’s voice is an institution, there’s no doubting that. Where this album falls down is the arrangements. The dirge of Bird On The Wire falls way short of the twinkling piece that was originally conceived. A couple of tracks would work fine were they shorter (several minutes shorter in places), but as it is, they drag somewhat. Long running times are not a problem where the track is lively or delicate, but sadly what’s on offer here is, for the most part, neither. Where the album works best are the points where the tempo is raised and we really get down to some upbeat bluesy rock music. This is an album to listen to more than once - but have something else on the go whilst you’re doing it.
High Points: Honky Tonk Woman; The Letter; Sticks And Stones
A great live record. I wish someone would clean up the mix and re-master it the way it deserves to be.
I always really liked Joe Cocker. The thing about him was that he always picked good songs and surrounded himself with great musicians.
