Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 11% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.7/100, a mean average of 73.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.5.

tUnE-YaRdS is backed with another off-the-wall, strange take on pop music with a Prince-like malleable voice following the superb "w h o k i l l". I read an interview that she studied up on creating pop songs so she could perfect that in her music; but the irony is, this album's a bit of a step down from "w h o k i l l". I think band mastermind Merrill Garbis should just let the music flow. Her songs work best that way, like on "water fountain".

Even more joyously bonkers than before. This might be the best new album I've heard this year.
One of the best albums I ever heard ever.
In my opinion this albums varies a lot in quality, too many tracks borders on a more reggae/dub-foundation than her previous album, which I don't think suits the amazing Merrill Garbus. The last track also sounds like M.I.A., which doesn't suit her either. And frankly Nikki Nack lacks some of the energy that made w h o k i l l such a great record. All this said, it's still an enjoyable, fun and experimenting album, and some of the most original music you may find this year. I'll give it a few more listens and see if I may change my mind.
This is a fantastic album. Tune-Yards continue to deliver with great music. Sticking with what they already do so well, they simply improve upon the recipe they've used for previous albums.

So much many rhythms. Her voice is amazing. Cosmic.
Consistent and worthy follow-up to 2011's 'w h o k i l l'. A continuance of the exhibition of Merrill's unique, elemental jungle-like sound. Nothing revolutionary on the first listen, but still special because you probably won't hear anything else like it this year. Also, if you haven't seen her live, she's especially good.
