Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.2/100, a mean average of 79.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 9.8.

(This review is for a version of NME's C86 that's available on streaming services like Google Music. The track listing is much different than what's listed here on BEA but shares some tracks.) Nice compilation of fun songs from mostly lesser knowns from this time and place. Some appear to be knockoffs of more successful British guitar bands, like the Jam and Jesus & Mary Chain. (The Primitives' "Lazy" and 14 Iced Bears' "Inside" are especially obvious JMC copies, and the Claim's "Gullible's Travels" sounds a lot like the Jam, though it's one of the album's better songs. Meanwhile The Enormous Room's "I Don't Need You" appears to presage Stone Roses, who were around at the time but not yet a success.) The derivative nature of the knockoffs is endearing at this distance in time, though also a little sad, like watching insecure tweens try too hard to be like a more confident peer.
