This is the album that marked the onset of Bruce Cockburn's second adolescence, the dismal rebranding of a once inspired and inspiring soul. How mediocre an electric guitarist can an acoustic guitar genius be? How prosaic and hamfisted can a once poetic and exstatic lyricist become? How silly can a down-to-earth Ottawa valley folk singer sound trying to punkify his voice? This album answers all these questions even as it abrogates Bruce's plea from a bygone era: "O Jesus, don't let Toronto take my song away". Best ever album? This one hasn't a prayer...
