Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 22% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.0/100, a mean average of 72.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.6.

highly stylized. ridiculous lyrics at times. tainted love, huge. new wave
So many great songs - almost every song is a classic, with thematic lyrics peeking into the perverted underbelly of England.
Nothing comes close to Tainted Love, but Youth and Bedsitter are great as well. The rest of the album is fairly dark too, when it comes to synthpop at least.
Favorite Tracks:Bedsitter, Say Hello Wave Goodbye
An ex gf of mine had this so I listened to it and was like, wait they recorded more than just Tainted Love? And the album is just as good or better than that song? Yes it is. It's a shame they didn't record much besides this because this is one of the best new wave albums out there.
Currently on an 80s synth binge and found my way to soft cell. I've only heard tainted love from this group but I was pleasantly surprised how much of the album I found myself liking. Bedsitter has to be my favorite on the album.
It's all pretty good, "Tainted Love" being the obvious standout, but I can't help feel a little underwhelmed when you place "Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret" in direct comparison with other late 70s/early 80s classic synthpop records. No matter, it's great for what it is and "Sex Dwarf" is a riot.
Pioneers
A sleazy electro pop album. The record cover says it all with Marc Almond suspiciously half hiding something obviously very naughty. As for the music, tainted love, is one of the great singles of the eighties, and, bedsitter, a good follow up. The closing track, say hello, wave goodbye, is beautiful, a song that David Gray would make even more beautiful on his, white ladder, album. NSEC, overall, is a bit inconsistent, a bit of filler here and there, but so what? Tainted love, is worth the price alone.
