Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 57.8/100, a mean average of 56.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 56.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.1.

On one hand, this album is pretty much awful, on the other hand, it did break up the band, so that's pretty good.

Having bought this on vinyl recently, knowing it's reputation as one of the less popular Styx albums, it isn't as bad as I thought it might be. I like Mr Roboto and Heavy Metal Poisoning and the rest of the album is ok, if not a bit dated.

This is where it all went wrong. Just not as good as earlier albums Pieces of Eight is there best.

Is it horrible, no. Is it good, no. Very average. I own the record but couldn't tell you the last time I played it. I think that says it all.

This album explains why so many kids were turning to punk and new wave.

Maybe better than its reputation but the wheels are definitely falling off. It's clear that this band was no longer on the same page. Only Mr. Roboto and Don't Let it End have any value here.

Better than its reputation. Yes, Mr. Roboto is horribly dated and had a really cheesy video, but it works as camp from its period. And the album is nowhere as bad as the detractors say. Don't Let It End of course was the Dennis DeYoung ballad for the AC crowd, you get to hear JY Young hamming it up and having fun with "Heavy Metal Poisoning" and we also have a solid Tommy/Dennis duet with "Haven't We Been Here Before". Not as great as The Grand Illusion or Pieces Of Eight but not the musical abortion that even the members of Styx (bar Dennis who still performs these songs solo) make it out to be.

The wheels were falling apart here. Looking back it was so obvious - Dennis provides 3 tracks, Tommy 3 and James 2 - no matter the quality! It starts of wonderfully. But from there it is a bit dull - I hate kids screaming (Heavy Metal Poisoning). It is only saved by Tommy Shaw's Haven't We Been Here Before - why wasn't this released as a single? Classic tracks: Mr Roboto, Don't Let It End and Haven't We Been Here Before. Cold War also deserving a mention (although live and longer version was much better).
