Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Though the songwriting is inconsistent at times, Imaginos actually contains some of the best compositional work of BOC's (excellent) career of evil. The production is terrible, but what else would you expect from a late 80's studio mess? The album's inarguable intrigue defines its strongest moments to create something that's at least memorable enough to be worth the time.
After all those years hearing about the Imaginos idea this record just sounds like a patchy and inconsistent record. I expected more.
Despite its messy gestation and indifference to it on its release, this is BOCs lost classic. If only we could have had the 3 volume complete Soft Doctrines of Imaginos as Albert Bouchard envisaged.

The story is a little convoluted, but the musicianship is tight and there are some excellent cuts here. A welcome addition to the BOC catalog.
