Very strong album that leans heavily into Jackson's piano skills and jazz background. Steppin' Out, of course, is classic. Another World is a very catchy intro, and the entire second side is very good. Definitely worth exploring.

Great album, Steppin' Out and Real Men are the best tracks but there are no weak ones on this album.

"Night and Day" è per me l'album più bello, in assoluto, della storia della musica pop-rock, anche se per questo album la definizione di stile "pop-rock" è parecchio riduttiva. In questo album Joe Jackson tira fuori tutto il suo straordinario talento di compositore, di arrangiatore e cantante. Qui il suo genio riesce a fondere a livelli davvero altissimi i più vari stili di musica in un'insieme unico, innovativo, eccitante e assolutamente geniale, si va dalla musica latina al rock, dal jazz al funky, dal pop alla musica afro-cubana,sino a melodie che hanno l'immensa bellezza e le aperture melodiche tipiche dei più grandi capolavori della musica classica, parlo di brani inimitabili e immortali come "A slow song", "Real Men", "Breaking us in two", ma tutti i brani dell'album sono di altissimo livello, anche se probabilmente i vertici assoluti e di pura genialità sono toccati con "Another world", "Chinatown" e "Steppin Out".
Joe Jackson, artista che definirei come il più sottovalutato della musica pop (anche se, ripeto, definirlo solo musicista pop è molto, molto riduttivo). In realtà Joe Jackson ha una genialità compositiva e una bravura di arrangiatore, pianista e cantante assolutamente incredibile. I Beatles hanno messo le fondamenta del pop in modo unico e geniale, ma Joe Jackson ha ripreso quella tradizione riuscendo a superare i maestri, con un pop straordinariamente raffinato e sontuoso.

"Night and Day" is for me the most beautiful album ever, in the history of pop-rock music, even if for this album the definition of "pop-rock" style is quite reductive. In this album Joe Jackson brings out all his extraordinary talent as a composer, arranger and singer. Here his genius manages to merge to very high levels the most varied styles of music in a unique, innovative, exciting and absolutely brilliant, ranging from Latin music to rock, from jazz to funky, from pop to Afro-Cuban music , until melodies that have the immense beauty and the melodic openings typical of the greatest masterpieces of classical music, I speak of inimitable and immortal songs like "A slow song", "Real Men", "Breaking us in two", but all the songs on the album are of the highest level, although probably the absolute and pure genius are touched with "Another world", "Chinatown" and "Steppin Out" .
Joe Jackson, an artist that I would call the most underrated of pop music (although, again, to call it only pop musician is very, very simplistic). In reality, Joe Jackson has a compositional genius and a skill of arranger, pianist and singer absolutely incredible. The Beatles laid the foundations of pop in a unique and ingenious way, but Joe Jackson resumed that tradition by succeeding in overcoming the masters, with an extraordinarily refined and sumptuous pop.

Che a Joe Jackson importasse poco del rock e dintorni lo si era capito fin da subito; che all'interno del mondo del rock potesse comunque muoversi agilmente l'aveva già dimostrato ma mai in maniera così sfrontata. Per "Night and day" mette insieme cultura classica, approccio jazzistico e gusto pop e crea una colonna sonora della notte come ce ne sono poche, mettendo d'accordo critica e pubblico; cosa che alla musica pop negli anni a venire riuscirà sempre meno.

An infectious buffet of jazz infused soul. Sparkling arrangements and A grade musicians throughout with steppin out, real men the highlights. Would have been a treat to catch him live.

Definitely not for all tastes and certainly unlike all he had done before. But I love it for what it is.

Urbane collection from Joe Jackson, who was stretching out from his new wave roots. Works very well, and there are some real gems: “Steppin' Out,” “Real Men,” “Breaking Us in Two,” “Slow Song.” Curious choice to start the album with the three weakest cuts, though.
