Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.9/100, a mean average of 77.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.7.

Joe's first is definitely his best. Somehow, he perfectly blended pop, punk, and new wave, into a perfect amalgamation of style all his own. Lots of great songs with good variety, skillful craftsmanship and fine delivery. A genuine accomplishment.

So solid and energetic album, marking the transition from punk to new wave. No bad songs. Best tracks: Sunday Papers, Fools in Love

Power pop! Really powerful funky tunes, very high tempo and solid from start to finish.

For a guy who plays the piano, this debut has precious little of that instrument...and that's a good thing. This is power pop at it's finest. The songs are catchy but deep and Joe's sarcastic flare was never better. I remember hearing this album for the first time a few months after "Night and Day" came out. I refused to believe it was the same man. Realizeing the range of his abilities at that moment made me a Joe Jackson fanatic for years to come.

As far as the New Wave period goes, this albums has got to be in the top five of that era. It's just solid from start to finish. Has anyone made a track as frenetically charged as "Got the Time?" Anthrax covered it, for Chrissake!
