Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.9/100, a mean average of 71.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.6.

You know how you like Jesu and Sun Kil Moon? Well this proves that putting Chocolate in Peanut Butter is not a good idea every time.
I like this. Had I never heard Sun Kil Moon before I might be interested in hearing more from the artist. But nothing in this album really stands out from the ones I've heard before. It just feels like they've gotten comfortable with the same type of music and I'm not impressed.
I just like listening to Kozelek's musings. Its strange but it feels very intimate regardless of the musical style.
So weird: powerful metal chords and classical soft arpeggi by Mark Kozelek. Something more than an experiment.
It's just a pretty sloppy experiment. Mark just does not work with Drone Metal/Shoegaze. Here is to hope the next record is better.
