Top 100 Music Albums of 2016
by jdizzle123456
This is my second year of seriously following and reviewing music. Some of these album reviews will be fully-formed and edited, others will be written on the spur of the moment. Some full-reviews went over the character-limit, so they may seem choppy. Criticism is appreciated. {Edit: probably won't have time to catch up on reviews till year's end}

Art rock, Alternative rock, Orchestral pop, Ambient
"Burn the Witch" is full of tinny percussion and col legno strings. I feel that it's a sardonic violent call-to-arms against the Trumps and Berlusconis of the world. "Daydreaming" is an eerily beautiful song about the transcendent world and living after a love that you thought would last an eternity has ended. The haunting cello lows at the closing of the song make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and remind me of Johnny's work with P.T.A. At the end, the backwards vocals are saying "half of my life." Thom is 46 and just broke up with his girlfriend of 23 years. This breakup, loss, and regret is the recurring theme of the album. "Decks Dark", like much of the album, features an impeccable mix of electronics and organic string and piano instrumentation. Again the lyrics are darkhearted meditations on loss. "Desert Island Disk" reminds me of a Fleet Foxes tune, and I feel it's a bit more accepting and peaceful than the rest of the record. "Ful Stop" reminds me of the darker repetitive moods of In Rainbows and "The National Anthem". I think Yorke regrets his intelligence, and half-heartedly wishes he could live in blissful of ignorance - of the state of the world, and of lost-love. "Glass Eyes" is a mantra of wanting to escape the isolation of the modern world. "Identikit" is a very rhythmic Rainbow-esque track about broken hearts. "The Numbers" is an acoustic-guitar driven protest song about humanity living up to our responsibility for climate change. "Present Tense" is an interesting Bossa Nova ballad about your world falling apart. "Tinker Tailor..." is an electronic track somewhat about paranoia. And lastly on the tracklist is "True Love Waits". It's an utterly heartbreaking song about wanting love more than anything else, and being on the losing end of things. It has a legendary history with Radiohead and its a perfect studio version for this orchestral/electronic rock record about deep personal loss.
Favorite Tracks: Daydreaming, True Love Waits, Burn the Witch [First added to this chart: 05/17/2016]
