Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.8/100, a mean average of 68.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

A loose compilation originally recorded in 1993 as an early showcase for Columbia which features a host of covers (Dylan, The Smiths, Led Zeppelin etc) along with a couple of Buckley originals (“Grace” / “Dream of You and I” ). Purely one for the mega-fan, however I simply adored the JB chatter between takes giving us a small glimpse into his personality
Having been fortunate enough to see Jeff perform live, the paired back nature of this album is super appealing. The raw emotion is mesmerising. The covers of Just Like A Woman, Calling You and Everyday People are superb. Great version of Grace & Dream Of You & !.
Jeff Buckley gained his following doing all kinds of covers in cafes and clubs, long before his recording career ever started, and these are mostly all of his best covers that he had been playing for years. Night Flight and Everyday People have some of his best wailing, and Poor Boy Long Way From Home is a fun tune that really sounds like some farmer playing guitar outside his shack sometime in the 1920's. He puts his own personal touch into all of the covers and makes them his own with only his voice and guitar. It's obviously not as good as Grace, nor is it meant to be; it's in a more intimate and simple setting compared to most of Grace. But if you are already a Jeff Buckley fan, you won't be disappointed checking this out. It also gives a clear glimpse into his guitar styles and you can have a lot of fun learning how to play them too!
