Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.6/100, a mean average of 71.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.5.

The Dixie Cups were one of the short-lived "girl groups" of the 60s. They were extremely popular at the time, and though the critics tended to pan them, the influence continues to creep into pop, R&B and punk rock today. Robert Christgau once compared Blondie as a more rocking version of Dixie Cups.

The Dixie Cups struck a nice balance between the melodramatic teenage pop of the Shangri-Las and the syrupy overproduced Ronettes. The group sings about teenage romance. The charming vocals sound like they are straight out of a children's schoolyard, but the empowered lyrics and the backing of a solid R&B group with blazing horns gives the sound the edge it needs to keep the listener engaged.

This LP is a master course in girl groups and teenage longing songwriting. I especially love the charming Grow Up, where the protagonist wishes to stay up late all night and get a boyfriend. How rebellious!

Recommended.

Reduced to a 7" Single:
A-Side: People Say
B-Side: I'm Gonna Get You Yet
