So this is part two of my ongoing journey through Elseq. Coming close to the end of finishing the first disc of this album and like the fourth album, I really love it. It does remind me of how I mentioned it being romantic but I should put that in quotations due to sounding completely erotic. To the point where if I describe the two discs, I might get banned from the site. Also the descriptors would be a definitely fit the TMI category. Grade for the first disc would be in the 90-95 range for me. But we are still not done with the album. Still got discs 2 3 and 5 to listen to.
Yesterday I decide to tackle a bit of this album since I realize that there new work is twice as long as this. For the initiative, NTS is 8 hours long. I tackled elseq 4 first and if that was its separate piece, I would give it a 100. The fourth disc to me at least feels the most "romantic" that they ever put out. Well underneath the sound the duo has conjured and master over the years. Tried the last disc earlier today and though spTH was really cool and innovative for them, a song like pendulu casual didn't really needed to be 9 minutes. Unless it was more involved, it should have been trimmed to 4 to 5 minutes long. Will post another comment when I dent more of this album.
This record is business as usual for Autechre who provide innovative & trippy tracks drawing from their earlier ambient work as well as the forward-thinking glitchy IDM they're known for. However, by diluting their great tracks with decent ones that are either too long or fail to stick in one's head, this record falls short of greatness...the runtime and the track lengths just aren't justified.
