Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.9/100, a mean average of 69.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.3.

And one more thing... I got this album for Christmas 2005! Same day I got Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube. So this album and that game are connected in my memory! How cool is that! :D
Starting with a handful of snowflakes falling on a bombed theater, the light pieces of silent sorrowjoy soon become a blizzard of bombast booming out the amps. And then we are moved to the past with the scenes of the years gone by unfolding before are eyes. Maybe we are invisible observers at this point? Or we are still in the ruins and these are but ghosts. The past is still alive. This album has a great opening I should probably stress. Stepping away from the garage and car park and into a more refined position, we have Alkaline Trio with their fifth effort. They can still turn up the volume though, you know... spin the drill. Songs like 'Dethbed' and 'The Poison' should please those who wanted more and more of the old, while 'Smoke' points the band in completely different direction than they would have gone. Seriously, it's R.E.M. in black tuxedo's and climatic end to boot! 'Nightdrowning' perhaps? 'Electrifie' even? Ha ha! I could find plenty of morbid themes to go with that unexplored side of the their songwriting. Other choppy chop highlights include 'Mercy Me' and 'Settle For Satin'. 'Your Neck' also sounds a little cheeky rather than outright hilarious and could be this albums humor song. Worked great on 'Take Lots with Alcohol' but that is the past. Enjoy new Alkaline Trio and stay tuned for the next. Worth going for if you like this.
Time To Waste is one of the best songs they have ever recorded.
This is the album that seperated old Alkaline Trio fans from new. You can't really call this a "punk" album like you could with the others. It's crime ? --It was too well produced.
If you analyze it without comparing it to the ones before, it becomes great. "Time To Waste" is one of the coolest intro tracks in recent memory. "Burn" "Mercy Me" "Smoke" are all strong tracks. I wouldn't call the rest of the album filler material either. Worth checking out.
