Excellent artists, I love pretty much all but their new work. Violent Femmes is by far their best work and as such it is in my top 10 albums of all time. ALso worth checking out are 3 and Hollowed Ground.

...not one album wonders but at least 3 album wonders:
Violent Femmes, Hollowed Ground, Viva Wisconsin (OK mostly songs of the two former albums...).
Some good stuff, but unable to maintain the momentum.

Is it harsh to label these guys one album wonders? Violent Femmes is a fantastic album, full of perceptions on growing up and cutting humour that's smarter than people realize. Further, these guys are pretty strong instrumentally - who else can rock out on a xylophone? Too bad they couldn't be consistently strong from album to album.
