Cat Power is the stage name of American singer-songwriter Chan Marshall.She is widely celebrated for her raw, minimalist sound that blends indie rock, folk, blues, and soul. Her stage name actually comes from an old "Cat Diesel Power" trucker hat she saw while on the phone booking her first gig, she is known for a smoky, low-register vocal style that feels deeply intimate.

Terrific, eclectic female singer/songwriter in the vein of Fionna Apple, Suzanne Vega, Rachael Yamagata, etc. She is among the tops in the genre. Not as prolific, or as angry, as Ani DiFranco - Cat Power has the chops to be a more widely revered artist.

I wonder why she isn't higher on the chart. I think the majority of her works are classics among female singer-songwriters. Amazing artist.
Her first album is my favourite.
