Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 24% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 76.5/100, a mean average of 76.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.9/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 9.9.

Somewhat inconsistent but his best albums are masterpieces.
After all those years of crap records, I was so shocked when he recovered with all those ones like Pure, Jagged. Its the most remarkable artistic comeback I can think of.
The stuff he did with Tubeway Army and his first solo album really are great. Not question a major influence for a lot of artists today. However, he has a lot of material out and yet only two real classics I can think of, The Pleasure Principle & Replicas (with Tubeway Army). Those two are great but I think he's missed the mark so much that it takes away his status from reaching true greatness.
Great synth pioneer with intricate melodies and rhythms - groundbreaking in the late 70's and one of my favourite artists - has found his feet again with his last two or three darker albums
I absolutely ADORE Gary Numan. I especially love the stuff he recorded with Tubeway Army. Gary Numan is the godfather of synth and he's as much a science fiction writer as he is a musician. Songs about alienation, cloning, secret police, futuristic junkies fill his albums and they are disturbingly beautiful. Punk meeths synth...this is really cool stuff. Check it out!
I like Gary Numan's early stuff, but the guy is not a good singer or songwriter. He throws out decent synth riffs and enough of a beat and melody to keep the music interesting. I'm not bored listening to his stuff, but he never moves into greatness territory.
