Silversun Pickups are like the new poker player at the table who wins a big hand early by luck and gains the respect of the table. But as the night progresses, or in this case--a career-- you find out they are just okay at Poker.
They started strong on Carnavas and Swoon was good too, although too similar to the debut. Then they were out of ideas and released 2 middling efforts since.
Stop comparing them to the Smashing Pumpkins because of their name! It's a stretch. Pumpkins were noisier and lacked the atmosphere of Silversun. Pumpkins were schizophrenic in their genre hopping song to song. Silversun is more consistent in setting a mood. (Adore the exception)
Corgan's voice startling didn't fit with their music. Lead singer of Silversun fits in with the sound. It's thin but its sweet--not nasally and whiny.
A band with a signature sound that fizzled out quickly. The singles were the correct choices and the best songs in their catalogue

They're a pretty good band, reminiscent of Smashing Pumpkins. Best songs are Lazy Eye, Panic Switch, Cannibal, and Pit.
