As the ads said at the time: "there's old wave, there's new wave, and there's David Bowie". One side avant-pop, one side ambient before the term was coined. Both brilliant.

A fascinating hybrid of the cerebral and the physical, of funk and what would be known as "cold wave", of American and European music, the aptly titled STS elevates the "transitional" album to an art-form in itself.

The summation of Bowie's extraordinary 1970s; an imaginary compilation with only new songs. His last truely great album for a long, long time.

A bleak, dystopian, George Orwell-inspired concept album with an impeccable flow, it contains some of Bowie's greatest music. Let's mention the excellent guitar work (all parts but one played by Bowie , who also produced the album himself).

So unconventional, therefore so bowiesque. Classy and dark. I love it, excessive sax presence notwithstanding.
ps: really saddened by your premature departure, Mr Jones. [First added to this chart: 01/11/2016]

Because Low is his best album Braddleshendo! I reckon. Your top 3 is the same as mine, Lodger sticks out as his most underated disc maybe. Especially good input with post scary monsters music as I am guilty so far from cherry picking from his "golden years".

Love Bowie but not sure why Low is at No 1
