This is my favorite record ever. It is number 1 after all. Metallica is my favorite band too. I know it’s cliche to pick the black album, but I had a hard time between this and master of puppets for my favorite. Why did I choose this one? Well you’ll know. This is what got me into music, not rock, not edm. Music. I know that sounds weird. But I was a weird kid, I had no preference when it came to music, I never listened to it. I didn’t ever plug in my earbuds and get lost in my favorite songs because I had no favorite songs. And while my parents played music that I liked, I never pursued it l, I never asked who this was because I didn’t care and didn’t fully appreciate music. But just one day I decided I wanna listen to Metallica. And I heard enter sandman. I was like holy shit. This is awesome. And I listened to that one song. But later on I listened to the full album. after I loved every song here. I moved to more and more and more bands and styles. Everything from Rage Against The Machine, to smashing pumpkins. It happened because of this album. This is what music is to me. It made me like music and made me who I am now. I will never thank this album enough for just immediately clicking with me immediately, opening this world up to me. As for the songs themselves? Well I said. I love every single one of them. The emotion in some and the awesome metal aspects of another made me love them. There is Not one I don’t like. So not only did this record make me who I am. But it is also some of my favorite music from my now favorite band. I rest my case

This record. This is hands down the greatest 90’s alt rock record of all time in my opinion. Funk and Alt rock are two things you wouldn’t think to associate with each other. But the chili peppers did that. The unthinkable. The sound of their earlier records mixed with 90s alt rock is a match made in heaven. The guitar work of John frusciante and flea’s bass lines stand out to me the most hear. An excellent blend of two amazing musicians gave this record its identity. I don’t want to diss Anthony or Chad, I have a huge amount of respect for both of them, while they are still amazing on this, i think that flea and John make this record ever so slightly. But I digress. I love every song on this record, everyone is great. The first half is pure heaven. Around the world, other side, scar tissue, and californication are some of my favorite songs ever. The next half is a little more funky and I commend them for this. They never sold out even when this was the perfect time to. They kept to their roots and that is pretty cool. I don’t skip a single song on this record, I let the whole thing play. I love the chili peppers so much and it was hard deciding my favorite record of theirs. Songs like otherside and scar tissue speak to the soul. And even the more rock tracks like around the world are still so amazing to listen to. I will always love this record. But it isn’t my absolute favorite.

While Gish was an admirable grunge record to say the least it was trying to do what everyone else was at the time. It has its merits. But it doesn’t stand close to Siamese Dream at all. Right off the bat this album knocks you up with cherub rock, a perfect opener. And other tracks like today and rocket do the same, Siamese Dream unfolds into this emotional masterpiece of songs like disarm, mayonaise, and soma. It goes from being an awesome alt rock record to being what I can only describe as some of the most beautiful music i’ve ever heard. This is 90s alt rock. The pumpkins found their style in this one, and they were unique. And how it went from a decent grunge record to 2 years later being one of the most profound records of the 90s is truly a cool story. This one i’ll Never ever forget

When Chris Cornell sadly passed in May of last year. The first thing I did was listen to super unknown. On repeat. I loved soundgarden when I was younger. And when I heard this news I was to say the least, heartbroken. So aside from me finding more and more to admire about this album I also just generally enjoyed the music more too. Black hole sun, day I tried to live, and like suicide are these richly composed tracks. And it’s sad that most people only found out about these after chris’ death. This is A true grunge masterpiece, this one belongs with the greats of the era. Chris’ roaring passionate voice still echoes to me to this day, even in his passing. No band will ever be like soundgarden and no album like Superunknown will ever be made. Rest In Peace Chris, we miss you.

Honestly, blink-182 used to be one of my least favorite bands. I hated tom’s voice, I thought that they were kind of a disgrace to punk, making it some pop bullshit. How wrong I was when the only song I heard was all the small things. Blink goes much deeper than that. I only learned that when my two friends introduced me to this record. The untitled record is a truly solid effort by blink. The proprietors of the genre made something that I would classify as alt rock\emo. Which isn’t a bad thing at all. The simple yet inspiring riffs of tom mixed with travis’ insane drumming and mark and tom’s dynamics between vocals, makes an exhilarating record with a lot to love. I dislike only one song on this, out of about 15. That’s when you know you have a good record. Something always makes me come back to this one. And I love it to death

Say what you want about korn. Yeah they’re edgy, yeah they’re for the nonconformists. And yes some of their music has aged a bit. But that doesn’t stop them from being one of the biggest rock bands around to this day. And that didn’t stop them at the time from making issues. While this is probably the least accessible on the list, due to their seemingly disturbing nature, this is still a masterpiece among nu metal. Me and a lot of people can relate to this album and suffered the same problems frontman Johnathan Davis suffered through. Making it much more than an edgy metal record. It made it somewhat of therapy, and that was one of korn’s intentions. So before people shit on korn, look at the lyrics and tell me you still think that they suck. Not only the lyrics but I like a lot of types of metal and this is stuff that is up my alley. Gruff guitars, catchy drums, and chugging bass lines make this a super metal record and deserving of the praise it gets.
