No other album in 2017 convinced me or impressed me as much as DAMN. A record so in touch with the times, so distinct in its sound and so well executed. [First added to this chart: 05/01/2019]

Best songs: Well Done, 1049 Gotho, Exeter
Vivacious, loud and essential. For those angry about our world today, Brutalism is the record we've been waiting for. Blends a phenomenal concoction of noise rock, punk and grunge and delivers it with all the sternness of a sledgehammer. An exceptional debut. [First added to this chart: 05/01/2019]

Best songs: Where This Flower Blooms, See You Again, Boredom
The neo-soul wave dances with the 2010s hip hop revolution, with glorious, wall-covering, insatiably groovy brilliance. The Tyler The Creator manifesto; the personal lyrics, the snappy beats, the exceptional features, the California warmth and the sultry production. His delivery never fails once. Impossible not to fall in love with this seminal record.

Best songs: Green Leaves, Get Free, Never Get You Out Of My Mind
How on earth we all managed to miss this stunning gem of an album, I will never fathom. Outstanding production, fantastic lyrics and a wonderfully laid back sound make Leif Erikson's debut utterly, utterly compelling. [First added to this chart: 05/01/2019]

Best Songs: The Pit, People Will Always Need Coal, You + Me
An atmospheric capturing of the tragedy of the Welsh Valleys. It's the heart and soul of an industry whose loss in turn lost an entire society that has yet to recover. Not just a musical memorial then, but but an expression of what mining was to this stunning part of the world. Carries you with its gentle, finessed production and post-rock feel and delivers its heaviest blows in its heartfelt, despondent words. [First added to this chart: 05/01/2019]

Paramore have properly grown up and flourished with After Laughter. The neo-New Wave sound is absolutely stellar; you can pick out the hints of bands like Blondie and The Cars all over the place, but its freshened up with modern production and classic Paramore instrumentation. It's on the inconsistent side overall, but it left such a joyous impression on me and became an essential pillar of my 2017 soundtrack. [First added to this chart: 05/01/2019]

To hell with the Brockhampton lore. If this is what 'boybands' are going to sound like from now on, sign me the f*ck up. [First added to this chart: 05/01/2019]

7 years was perhaps too long to wait for a new studio album and the hype seems to have overwhelmed it; Humanz is just not as good as I want it to be. Yet, there is so much good stuff on here, and you can tell just how much Albarn and Co tried to make this something special. Humanz then is an album of two halves. The first is the album it should have been, the second lets the whole thing down [First added to this chart: 05/01/2019]

Weak in its pacing but brilliant in its sound; its mellow electronica underpinnings mix with the sanctitudous, real-life lyrics to form one of the indie genre's most stunning releases in years. [First added to this chart: 05/01/2019]
