Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.3/100, a mean average of 74.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.9.

After Laughter showcases the brilliance of singer-songwriter Hayley Williams' everyman songwriting, powerful vocals, and timeless melodies and hooks.
The record is incredibly accessible, a gift for longtime fans and new listeners. Emo may come and go, but Paramore and Williams is here to stay, and the presentation of their sound as New Wave is a natural move, considering the impact of predecessor rock groups like Blondie. Some may think it sounds retro, and maybe only because we haven't been gifted new wave of this quality in so long.
Track by track, this is the strongest set from Paramore and Hayley's solo career. The only flaw is No Friend, an experiment that struggles to stand on its own two feet when it would have worked well as a bridge in another another song.
But make no mistake: These songs are timeless keepers. People one hundred years from now who have their hearts broken can look back on Paramore and feel the same emotions that are so tactfully on display here. Hopefully by then, this will come off as classic, not retro.
Essential.
Condensed to a 7" Single:
A-Side: Fake Happy
B-Side: 26
Slowly becoming my favorite Paramore album, a good change for the band
Favorite tracks:
1) Fake Happy
2) Rose Colored-Boy
3) 26
I’ve always thought of them as a pop band; they make much more sense now. But they somehow still sound like a rock band. They approach pop as rock artists, which is interesting. But the result could be better.
Lyrics are really interesting on some tracks.
Paramore has been my favourite band since I heard them in 2007. They've stuck with me because each album has been meaningful to me at the time of its release. After Laughter is no exception - I find myself loving it almost because I need it. Hayley's lyrics are so vital to the world that deems happiness to be a requirement - resulting in a world of facades. This is a record as vibrant as its cover art.
I've been listening to Paramore for more than a decade and grew up with their records. I can say without a doubt that this is their finest record. (Their previous self-titled effort was pretty good too, as well)
Touches on some powerful personal themes, but to the tune of upbeat well-produced music that is so fucking catchy that I have trouble putting this record down.
Favorite Tracks: Tell Me How, Fake Happy, Told You So, Pool
Least Favorite: No Friend
I can now say that this is with out a doubt the best Paramore album.
Keeps getting better every single time I hear it
Best album by paramore with sure
Real 80’s vibe going on here , fun pop . Too “ fluffy “ for my palette but I can absolutely understand why people love this album.
Maybe it's not the best album of the year, but it is sorely underrated on this site.
