A Live One was probably my favorite album from when I bought it sometime in 1995/96 to at least the year 2000. My enjoyment of it hasn’t really declined since then…it’s just that my enjoyment of other bands and albums has since increased. A Live One’s release coincided with the start of my Phish fandom. I attended my first live show a year later in 1996 and haven’t looked back.
My favorite tracks have changed so many times over the years. Upon last listen, ‘Stash’, ‘Slave to the Traffic Light’, ‘Simple’, ‘Harry Hood’ and ‘The Squirming Coil’ were the standouts, but really…I love it all. I even have more patience and enjoyment for the 31 minute ‘Tweezer’ than I did back then. The extended jam goes to some very strange but rewarding places, before (what appears) effortlessly storming back into ‘Tweezer’ for the last few minutes. The piano solo outro to the closing track, ‘The Squirming Coil’ is, and has always been, sublime. [First added to this chart: 06/21/2021]
