Thin Lizzy- So Far...
by AAL2014

So it was true. The thing literally everyone had said. Thin Lizzy is great and completely underrated. Although I've only listened to about a third of the catalog, each record has been not only pretty damn solid all the way through, but each album has at least a couple of absolute gems and a couple dozens memorable moments and qualities.

Phil Lynott is one of the most identifiable figures in rock from his far too hip for the room look to his tight and swinging as fuck bass lines. He's comparable to Springsteen for me in the way he could use the format of a 3 to 6 minute song to build these worlds with characters and narratives that you can so easily become immersed in.

So, let me be yet another to help turn someone else on to Thin Lizzy, one of the great bands of their time or any.

Truly, one of the most solid albums in classic rock. Similar to Deep Purple's Machine Head or Led Zeppelin 4 where the biggest songs suffer from major burn out factor, but hey a great track is a great track, and Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak has no shortage of them.

Emerald, Cowboy Song, and the title track are some of my favorite songs in the catalog.

Listen to this for one of the heavier and punchier efforts from Lizzy with songs like Opium Trail and the title track. An incredibly solid listen. Love the bass work from Lynott on Dancing In the Moonlight.

Fighting was the first record of theirs I listened to after listening to Jailbreak a couple of years ago and once or twice more since. It did more than enough to serve as a great re-intro to Thin Lizzy for me. Starts really strong.

Wild One and King's Vengeance are the standouts here. Just gorgeous.

Not a bad record by any stretch, just a less special album so far to my ears. I feel the albums that surround it in the discography surpass it comfortably. However, the signature Thin Lizzy songwriting and aesthetics are still here and still very good.
