Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.2/100, a mean average of 79.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

Really good album that is both tough and tender with hard rock, balladry, Phil Lynott's silky voice, and those awesome dual guitars. Of course The Boys are Back in Town is the classic, but Jailbreak's riff is unforgettable, The Cowboy Song is a perfect mix of melody and guitar mastery, Emerald is a fiery finale, and Romeo and the Lonely Girl features probably the best little snippet of guitar on the whole album. Certainly worth a listen every once in a while, just to hear those guitars again.

Fun hard rock album. Title track is great.
The song jailbreak is over rated and feels really out dated. I think the majority of the album follows in this suit and if it wasn't for the huge single of The Boys Are Back In Town, which is brilliant, this record would not be as highly rated as it is. Other than that song there are two or three other tracks which are infectious and have great choruses on them. The other tracks I find to be a bit dull and lacklustre and a little bit poor in terms of production. There are superior albums that are more consistent with their sound and quality, such as Black Rose, which doesn't get anywhere near the same hype as this one. Despite this, the guitar performance is pretty amazing throughout and it really keeps this album flowing and is the reason it is so accessible. The back half really save the record on the whole. Overall, there is a lot of fun to be had on this record with a few outstanding songs but I do think it gets over rated for that one big hit.
A "standard" listening with no alarms no surprises. The album that brought Thin Lizzy into the spotlight and resulted in their commercial breakthrough. It's a classic, guitar-driven hard rock 70's album. Nothing more, nothing less. Not a huge fan, but enjoyable nonetheless. I'm sure I would evalute this differently if I was around back then. Contains two of their biggest hits - Jailbreak and particularly The boys are back in town - with Cowboy Song not far behind either. However, If I had to pick one highlight, the guitar solo in Romeo and the Lonely Girl seals the deal.
This record just kept getting better with every listen. I'm so glad I discovered Thin Lizzy's discography outside of "The Boy Are Back in Town" cause there isn't a single bad song on this album nor is there a single bad record in their catalog. One of the greatest hard rock albums ever made.
Best song(s): "Jailbreak" "Romeo And The Lonely Girl" "Warriors" "The Boy Are Back in Town" "Fight or Fall" "Cowboy Song" "Emerald"
Fantastic classic hard rock album. Some stone cold greats on this, 'Emerald' being my pick of the bunch
Cracking album. Some superb guitar work. Jailbreak, Cowboy Song and Boys Are Back In Town are standout tracks. For years I never took this band seriously (sorry Thin Lizzy, I have grown up,now!).
Hardly my favorite Lizzy album, but I'll be damned if it isn't near perfect. Not only do you have 5 STANDOUT tracks (Jailbreak, Warriors, The Boys are Back in Town, Cowboy Song, and Emerald), but Angel From the Coast, Romeo and the Lonely Girl, and Fight or Fall along with it.
The reason why I don't give it 100 is because of the annoyingly generic Running Back. Other than that, you've got a brilliant hard rock record with the classic Thin Lizzy style.
If Springsteen fronted AC/DC it might sound something like this. Thin Lizzy never really got their due. Killer stuff!
