This album is one of my all time favourites. I am lucky enough to have in mint condition on purple vinyl. A mate at secondary School got me into this, I was always intrigued by the intro to Child in Time, it is only a ride cymbal bell and Hammond Organ yet it still sounds years ahead of its time even in 2017. Lucky enough to see Deep Purple live a few years ago now, concert was amazing. [First added to this chart: 03/21/2021]

I have waited many years for this to be re released on vinyl and at last that day has come. Excellent progressive album with what is possibly the most bizarre sleeve art in all of my collection. I always wondered what the H to He part of the album title meant, I now realise it is ‘the fusion of Hydrogen nuclei to form Helium nuclei, which is the basic exothermic reaction in the sun and stars and hence is the prime energy source in the universe’. Coming for a second bite of the cherry on this album as I have just purchased the long awaited vinyl re-issue. For anyone deliberating, get in quick before they are all gone, quality of recording and packaging is excellent. A classic top notch progressive album which writhes and twists like a viper on scorched earth. Refugees is still a personal favourite. And the last section of White Hammer is so dark and cold and heavy, like an abyss, it could consume you. [First added to this chart: 04/12/2022]

This could very well become my favourite King Crimson album, I certainly put it above 'Larks' for musicality. For me this one has the slight edge over 'In the Wake of Poseidon' but not by a lot. There is much more flute and sax and overall it has a much more jazzy light feel than 'Larks'. A prog masterpiece in its own right and still with lashings of Mellotron to drool over! Superb psychedelic/folk album from this now perhaps forgotten artist. I absolutely love the vocals and the very sixties/early seventies atmosphere. Excellent production on the vinyl re-issue. [First added to this chart: 09/29/2020]

What a debut album. The frightening cover sets the scene for the first track, with the heavy rain, thunder and tolling Church bell. My only slight irritation with the whole album is the fact that Ozzy used the word 'me' at the end of the same verse twice in the opening vocal lines of track one i.e 'what is this I see before me' and 'figure looking at me'. He could have been a bit more creative here. Apart from that minor irritation it is a solid metal album which i enjoy listening to occasionally. There is a 'haunting feel' to the recording which is complimented by the harmonica. Some great guitar soloing thrown in to boot. [First added to this chart: 02/28/2021]

This is a vastly underrated album. I am guilty of this also, having owned it on CD for a couple of years, I have never actually taken time to properly sit down and listen, rather I tend to have it on as background music in the car while driving, an issue I have with myself and many CD's in my collection. Having now got hold of the vinyl re-issue I have addressed this situation. If you are into your keyboards, the title track kicks off with some great Mellotron strings and the Mellotron provides a more soft string sound throughout this track, a sample tape quite different to the opening harsher string sound. The title track from this album is one of my all time favourite King Crimson tracks. The Mellotron is again used to amazing effect on 'The Devils Triangle' helping to create a truly terrifying atmosphere in parts. Superb! [First added to this chart: 09/05/2021]

Many of the Pink Floyd albums make no reference to the band or album title on the cover. This was a brave and bold move by Pink Floyd, particularly with early albums like this 1970 release. Brave indeed to produce an album with a cow on the front and three cows on the back, it has however become an iconic album sleeve. The music within is as iconic. Apparently an album Pink Floyd didn't like much themselves, however I really enjoy it, particularly the big orchestral sound of the first side (I have the vinyl). Although there are mixed reviews about Alan's psychedelic breakfast, I enjoy it, its suits the quirky feel of the album. A band on the edge of of a whole new era, this set the scene for Meddle. My introduction to Neil Young was through a Nils Lofgren concert where Nils sang a couple of his songs, in fact Nils Lofgren has a vocal style which is similar to Neil Young. It was therefore quite late in my musical discovery that I began to buy his material, this being the starting point. I think the stand out tracks are the title track, Southern Man and Cripple Creek Ferry, I do enjoy the whole album though. It has a very laid back feel which I find quite therapeutic. The opening dark riff and chilling siren, warning of impending doom, sets the scene for the album. 'Paranoid' is a classic metal track that somehow never sounds dated, well not to me anyway! The track 'Planet Caravan' is a favourite for me. Personally I prefer later albums over this as a whole but that is not to say this isn't a classic album in its own right.
