"There is an interesting history to this album. Actually Badfinger's third album was ready for release in spring 1971, but for several reasons Apple would not release the album. Some of the songs were re-recorded while others were simply scrapped. Fortunately these songs have surfaced in recent ye..."  [+]  Reply

"This wants to be something more than it is. It's steeped in aesthetic suggestion of something dark, something sinister, something lying beneath the surface under the white lace. Alas and alack if there's in fact some deeper truth or horror or horror-truth hidden under there, Cain hasn't the faint..."  [+]  Reply

"A very strong debut. Maybe even better than the Rolling Stones 64 debut. The band sound very tight and clear, and the bass lines are glorious. A commonplace would be to say that "House of the rising sun" is the highlight. HOTRS is the best track, but the real highlight is Eric Burdon's powerful a..."  [+]  Reply

"I knew this album was going to be good after the singles were certified modern rock classics. What I wasn't expecting was the extremely intimate, and moving closing moments."  Reply

"Hugely successful comeback after the disappointing Soul to Soul. Stevie at his best here, still laying down some blazing blues, but having refined his craft even a step further. He also does a nice job shifting from blues to jazz on the closer, 'Riviera Paradise.'"  Reply

"The lyrics are amazing, the work of Richey is more obvious than on Generation Terrorists. This album in particular seems to go unnoticed by some MSP fans, which is a bit unfair in my eyes, because I think it's one of their best, second only to The Holy Bible."  Reply

"The fact that this album was played ad nauseum for a year or two, and features Santana partnering with Rob Thomas (gag!) overshadows the actual quality here. It's slick, overproduced and a little shallow, but it's still decent. Not worthy of the hype at the time, but not worth a huge backlash eit..."  [+]  Reply

"Bjork's always trying something different, this time she harkens back to the sound of her first few albums by using some brand new instrument creations. It's still bjork, and when tracks work, like "crystalline", they work well. i just wish she'd try more uptempo numbers like that -- a lot of tra..."  [+]  Reply

"I also agree that this album is underrated. They obviously understood that they needed to develop a new sound with more range to stay relevant, and they ultimately succeeded wildly. Nimrod planted the seed of experimentation, but this was when the seed sprouted and the sonic shift truly occurred,..."  [+]  Reply
