Top 23 Music Albums of 1981

I recently listened to 1981 for #5albums81. There was so many innovative sounds being made this year, and I barely scratched the surface of the albums released. I didn't even make to some post-punk classics. Need to come back and listen again in the future.
My main takeaways were that (a) the baton of electronic innovation had firmly been passed from Germany to the UK, New York and Japan by this point, (b) I don't rate my previous favourites (Bunnymen, New Order, Cure) so much, but then those 3 were never my favourite albums of theirs and (c) there were so many innovative post-punk female acts. The Sound were an incredible find that I had never heard of before. How come they were never as huge as U2?
